Practice Makes Perfect...one of these days.

It's true.  You have to practice to get better at anything.  This little truth lays claim to many areas of my life: frying eggs, downward facing dogs, Donkey Kong, and especially photography.  I can't just let my camera get dusty.  Especially as wedding season kicks into high gear.  Plus,  I love experimenting with new light and angles.  I got a chance to do so a few weeks ago. I am part of a group of Kentucky photographers who get together once a month to chat about our businesses and share experiences with one another.  Last month, we had a practice shoot.  Susannah was gracious enough to contact several couples who were willing to model for us.

Here are a few of my shots.

Sunny Day Shoot with Henry: Lexington Children's Photography

It has been quite a week!  I can't believe I actually changed the name of my business.  We have received great feedback from so many of you.  Thank you so much.  Your kind words have made me so thankful for this job.  We have even more in store!  Along with our new brand we have new packaging and products coming in the next few months that are going to make the HHP experience even better.  When I started the business it was all I could do to just shoot and edit.  Now we are taking more time to be something more than a shooting and editing machine and I love it.  Thanks again, especially to all my brides, grooms, families, and even babies for your support! Speaking of babies, take a look at Henry.  So adorable!

Tornado Warnings: A Family Photo Shoot in Louisville

Melissa (the lovely lady below in pink) and I had been trying to set up a shoot for a almost a year.  A couple Saturdays ago all her family members' schedules finally aligned...and it was raining.  And thundering.  And tornadoing.  I just made that word up I believe.  However, a pavilion and and intermittent pauses in the rain saved the day.  I think we came away some amazing family pictures.  Thanks Melissa!

Practice "Senior" Shoot

Winter hibernation has officially ended.  Spring has sprung and it has brought with it a lot of weddings and photo shoots.  To prepare for our busy schedule (and get a few "senior" photos for the portfolio) Gabe and had a shoot with some of our friends a couple weeks ago.  I love senior shoots and am hoping to book more this year.  These ladies attend Asbury University, so they aren't seniors, but they are young and beautiful and I think that counts. Thanks Andrea, Jane, Cassie, Kristen, and Laura!

We Are Family: Lexington Portrait Photography

It was wonderful seeing Cameron and his mom, Jenny, again this past Sunday.  What's more, I got to meet their entire family!  Everyone (four generations!) met at Grandma's (thanks Brenda!) for a long awaited shoot.  I was inspired by this family!    Family photos are so important and the best gift for a parent or grandparent.  My mom loves nothing more than when we are all together. She loves it even more when I have a camera and am documenting everyone!  Even camera shy Nancy (my mom) will pose if it's with one her adorable grandkids.   I may be gathering the Lashbrook and Lawson clans together soon for family portraits.  Who will take our pictures?  My arms aren't that long to hold it out in front of nine people and I always have bad aim with I shoot lens-in-front-of-my-face style.  Also, my own family photos always seem to get held hostage by my hard drive sometimes only to be ransomed as Christmas presents. The beautiful family!  Side note: I love shoes.  I notice that the matriarch has the same pair of shoes I use for shooting weddings.  My flawless shoe style spans generations.

Four generations of lovely ladies.

They looked great, they weren't blinkers and enjoyed one another's company!

Baby Violet: Lexington Children's Photography

It seems like it often rains on Monday.  I like it!  Gabe and I had an exciting weekend.  We had friends in for Georgia, shot Heather and Jack's wedding, and I had a family photo shoot.   Thus (love that word), we went to bed at 10pm last night.  Crazy!  We typically burn the midnight oil working or watching Conan. Violet is my dear friend Natalie's daughter.  Nat is a fellow photographer and was very helpful to me when I started my business in early 2008.  I spent most of 2007 second shooting with Natalie, getting my feet wet in the wedding business.  We became very close during that year and she is still one of my closet friends.  She was also one my matron's of honor last year at our wedding.  Violet was not born yet.  What does this mean?  Natalie was nine months pregnant in my wedding.  She was a trooper!  We thought Violet would be born while we were in San Diego on our honeymoon but she decided to wait until we got back.  She is so beautiful!  Gabe loves her red hair and I think he prays everyday that at least one of our kids will be a Violet look-alike.

Violet's sweet brothers: Noah and Benjamin.

With mama!
