Wedding Show Fun

Wedding shows are an interesting thing.  Especially for photographers.  We are generally introverts, kind of shy people.  Or at least I am.  Don't get me wrong.  I love people.  But I feel like I have an awkward and bashful side, especially when it comes to conversation.  And I meet new people all the time.  So almost everyday I make an attempt to overcome said awkwardness and bashfulness as I get to know  a new bride.   At these shows, I meet about 100 new brides for only a few minutes.  Hello awkward potential.  It can be a bit daunting but luckily I have Gabe and I love my job.  This year we had a great time chatting with everyone and showing them what we are all about.  I focused on just being me and meeting lots of lovely brides-to-be.  Turns out, it's not so hard.  Did I mention that I had Gabe by my side?  I love that guy. I felt great the the show this year.  I LOVE our booth.  We brainstormed, went to antique shops, and bought patio furniture so our booth would meet our eclectic and cozy vision.  I think we succeeded.  I even bought a new dress and shoes for the occasion.  I will use any occasion as a reason to buy clothes and shoes.  The shoes were unbelievably painful, but boy, were they cute.  I managed to wear them the first and last 30 minutes of the five hour show.

Another great aspect about this year's show was Jacki Allen's WOW Event.  I went to the mini conference and had the pleasure of listening to Tara Guerard, Elizabeth Messina and Janie Medley.  These ladies are three "greats" in the wedding business and they had a lot of insight to share with us.  After they spoke, we went to Spindletop for a reception where I got to chat even more with Janie and Elizabeth.  Elizabeth is an extremely talented photographer and I am very inspired by her work.  Janie runs a very successful blog (The Bride's Cafe) for bride's and she is a blast.  Oh my goodness, I learned so much!  Thanks to Jacki, Jaimeson and their team for organizing this wonderful event.

Anyway, here's how the booth played out:

Ta da!

Gabe bought these flowers to spruce up the booth.

He also found these fabulous antique cameras!  We used our bookshelf from home to display our bigger prints.

Gabe's mom found our easels.  They were perfect!

Gabe is ready usher in the brides.

Below is our crown jewel of the booth: the coat rack.  My mom tied perfect bows to our prints so we had another way to display our work.   I borrowed Joy's veil (one of our 2010 brides, thanks Joy!) and used a pair of my heels to top it all off.

The painful, yet beautiful shoes are in the background of the picture below.  They did go great with the dress.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the MLP booth!  Happy wedding planning!

Heather and Jack

I’ve never shot in the snow and I was tempted not to this past Saturday.  The alarm went off and my bed seemed warmer, Gabe seemed cuddlier (if that is possible), and the bedroom seemed colder.  I managed to pull myself out of bed and look out the window.  Lots of snow and it was still falling.  We should stay in.  But the still small photographer voice inside of me said, “Gabe’s good at driving in snow and it will be fun and the pictures will be so pretty.”  So we met Jack and Heather and the small voice was right!  It was wet and cold and so worth it.  It snowed through the entire shoot and even warmed up a bit. At the end I was thanking them for coming all the way on such a wintry day and a ton of snow feel right on my head and camera.  The still small photography voice whispered, “You’re so uncool.” Heather and Jack Nicholson: Can’t wait for part two of the shoot and you guys rocked it out.

Brittany and Chris: Engaged!

Well, MLP has almost wrapped up another wedding season.  I shot my last wedding on Sunday for six weeks!  What am I going to do with six free Saturdays?  They are already filling up with our third annual Apple Day, a 5k (yikes!), lots of holiday baking, album designing and photo editing.  This leads to an MLP announcement: If you have not chosen your pictures for your wedding album, please so before Saturday if you would like your album before Christmas.  Thanks!

Enjoy these pictures from my latest engagement shoot.  All I have to say is yay for fall light!

Lauren and Barrett: Engaged

Hello again.  Two posts in one day!  I actually have another Casey and Greg post but I will save it for tomorrow. I had a wonderful time with Lauren and Barrett.  We must have walked a couple miles all around downtown Lexington; and it was so fun!  I love when I can just enjoy an afternoon with people and they are willing to stop anywhere for pictures.  Lauren and Barrett were more than willing.  Thanks, you all. Gabe and I are going to Charleston, SC for their June wedding and cannot wait!

PS - Check out Dallyce and Matt's pictures below, another lovely MLP couple!

Dallyce and Matt: Engagement Shoot in Georgetown

I am loving all the fall colors in these photos.  Dallyce and Matt match the oranges, reds, and yellows so well!  Gabe is glad to have a fellow redhead on the blog again.    :) I cannot wait to get out of the office and enjoy autumn!  Gabe and I thought we'd go hiking out of town last weekend but the hike turned into local trails, which turned into strolling in the park nearby, which turned into a walk around the neighborhood.  Alas.  I hate it when that happens.  I think we are going to give it another try on Sunday.  My ankle is ready!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

David and Hannah: Engaged, Now Married

I was sitting on Hannah and David's engagement shoot because I really liked it and was waiting to post it at just the right time.  As days went by and I contemplated this "right posting time," their wedding crept up on me and I never posted the engagement shoot.  Ha! Alas. Hannah and David were my 10.10.10 wedding.  Gabe and I wanted to get married on 10.10.10 but it is in the middle of his school semester and it just worked out better for us to have a June wedding.  I am so glad it worked out that way and we were able to shoot David and Hannah's wedding.  They are a lovely and fun couple!  Hannah lives in Georgia so we only got to meet with her once in person and met David for the first time at the engagement shoot.  When I introduced myself to David, I looked at him and had that "I know you from somewhere but I have no idea where" moment.  He did too.  As I started hobbling along (the sprain repercussions) we figured it out.  He was my doctor when I sprained my ankle last month!  What are the odds?
